My name is Darryl Williams
I come to be in Colorado through a program called the underground railroad. This program was created to help those that was really facing a situation.
Such as being in a nursing home. Not having the proper help in the home with a family member. Something that a person with a disability could very well face throughout they injury.
I was one of those people faced with that situation ! I moved to Colorado seven years ago. In the pursuit of being independent. My life has changed tremendously. In more ways than one. I come from a situation. Where I spent nine years in the bed. Not by my decision.
Colorado was a new beginning for me. In being independent on a whole new level. That I did not think was possible. I learned everything I possibly could when I got here. Volunteering my time to various organizations. Just soaking up all the information I possibly could.
Knowing that if I put myself in the right position. I could put my life back together. And I could live the way that I wanted to. And pursue dreams and things that I’ll always thought about.
Wanting to do more I pursue other opportunities. Such as moving people here from Memphis, Tennessee. That really wanting to be independent like me.
I learned that being very knowledgeable. About what’s going on in the disabled community could lead me to my dreams. That’s why I would like my corner to be that place that keeps you informed. It’s time for us as a disabled community. To share information .
Such as is section 8 taking applications. Could you help me find a accessible apartment. What kind of programs out there for kids with a disability. Maybe you’re looking for funds for a accessible vehicle. Maybe someone needs to know where a food bank is. This is the type of information that the disabled community should be sharing. This is a wonderful website to do just that. And if you cannot find the information here. Then I will find it. And posted it on our site.
